学院概况

华南生物医药大动物模型研究院（以下简称“研究院”），是为贯彻落实《广东省发展生物医药与健康战略性支柱产业集群行动计划(2021-2025年)》“支持江门、肇庆市建设再生医学大动物实验基地、南药健康产业基地”战略部署，由2026世界杯官方合作网站与中国科学院广州生物医药与健康研究院、广州再生医学与健康广东省实验室共同建设的高水平科研创新平台。研究院位于广东省江门鹤山市共和镇平汉村委会马山，占地面积约90亩，总建筑面积约2.4万平方米，包括猴、猪和兔等大动物的繁育中心、动物实验中心、创新研究中心、动物检疫室、生活楼等设施，可容纳普通级实验猪1100头，SPF级实验猪200头，实验猴1000只，实验兔500只。总投资超4亿元人民币，其中科研仪器设备投入达1.3亿元人民币，主要包括大动物影像学、病理学和行为学研究仪器设备，以及分子、细胞和胚胎操作研究仪器设备。

研究院已形成以赖良学研究员为带头人的医用猪模型科研团队，以顾为望教授为带头人的非人灵长类模型科研团队，以范江霖教授为带头人的家兔心血管疾病科研团队，以郑允文教授为带头人的干细胞研究与治疗技术科研团队，以陈磊教授为带头人的类器官研究与评价科研团队。

研究院主要以猴、猪和兔等大动物为研究对象，通过基因编辑方法创制人类重大疾病大动物模型，并利用这些大动物模型研究疾病机理、测试新型药物的有效性和安全性，推动大动物在再生医学及其他生物医药相关领域中的应用转化。

研究院旨在建立一个集基础研究、开发应用、技术服务于一体的国际一流生物医药原始创新研发平台。服务对象主要有国内外各大科研院校、医院、药物和医疗器械研发企业等，为其提供大动物模型资源和技术服务平台。研究院的建成将极大地提升江门市乃至广东省在生物医药与健康领域的创新能力和国际影响力。该平台已于2024年4月通过广东省医学大动物模型重点实验室（省市共建）项目验收，于2024年5月获批实验动物猪、猴使用许可证，于2024年7月正式启用，2024年10月获批“国家大动物模型创新中心—华南基因编辑猪分中心”，2025年7月获批实验动物猴生产许可证。

The South China Institute of Large Animal Models for Biomedicine (hereinafter referred to as "the Institute") is a high-level scientific research innovation platform jointly established by Wuyi University, the Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Guangzhou Regenerative Medicine and Health Guangdong Laboratory. Its establishment aims to implement the strategic deployment of the "Guangdong Provincial Action Plan for the Development of Biomedical and Health Strategic Pillar Industrial Clusters (2021-2025)", which calls for "supporting Jiangmen and Zhaoqing cities in the construction of regenerative medicine large animal experimental bases and Nanhai health industry bases."

The Institute is located in Heshan City, Jiangmen, Guangdong Province. It covers an area of approximately 90 mu (about 6 hectares), with a total floor area of approximately 24,000 square meters. Its facilities include breeding centers for large animals such as monkeys, pigs, and rabbits, an animal experiment center, an innovation research center, an animal quarantine facility, and a staff dormitory building. The Institute has the capacity to house 1,100 conventional experimental pigs, 200 SPF experimental pigs, 1,000 experimental monkeys, and 500 experimental rabbits. The total investment exceeds 400 million RMB, with 130 million RMB dedicated to research instruments and equipment, including major equipment for large animal imaging, pathology, and behavioral research, as well as molecular, cellular, and embryological research instruments.

The Institute has established several research teams: the Medical Pig Model Research Team led by Professor Lai Liangxue, the Non-human Primate Model Research Team led by Professor Gu Weiwang, the Rabbit Models for Cardiovascular Disease Research Team led by Professor Fan Jianglin, the Stem Cell Research and Therapy Technology Team led by Professor Zheng Yunwen, and the Organoid Research and Evaluation Team led by Professor Chen Lei.

The Institute focuses on large animals such as monkeys, pigs, and rabbits as research tools. Using gene-editing methods, it creates large animal models of major human diseases, studies disease mechanisms, tests the efficacy and safety of new drugs, and promotes the application and translation of large animals in regenerative medicine and other biomedical-related fields.

The Institute aims to establish a world-class original innovation research and development platform integrating basic research, applied development, and technical services. It serves major domestic and international research institutions, universities, hospitals, and pharmaceutical and medical device R&D companies, providing them with large animal model resources and technical service platforms.

The platform passed the acceptance review for the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Medical Large Animal Models (provincial-municipal joint construction) in April 2024. It obtained licenses for the use of experimental pigs and monkeys in May 2024, officially opened in July 2024, was designated as the "National Large Animal Model Innovation Center – South China Gene-Edited Pig Sub-center" in October 2024, and obtained production licenses for experimental monkeys and pigs in February 2026.
